GREEN JELLY

Born: 1981
Genre: Rock/Pop
Styles: Alternative/Indie

Green Jelly began life as Green Jello in 1981 in Kenmore, New York. The name was chosen due to the band's poor opinion of that flavor, and they decided that it also appropriately reflected the quality of their music. The band never attempted to be good, deciding instead to "disguise their lack of ability with stupid props," as their liner notes put it. The group appeared on touting themselves as the world's worst band, but the real turning point came when they met Gwar in 1988 and learned how to sculpt props and costumes with latex, papier-mache, chicken wire, and couch cushions. They attracted a small, curious following with their bizarre, cartoonish look and wound up signing with Zoo Records as a video-only band. They released a video album called Cereal Killer Soundtrack, using simple, bubblegum metal songs as an excuse to dance around in silly costumes, and the clay-animation video for "Three Little Pigs" became an MTV hit, spawning the release of an EP and later the full soundtrack to the video album. With success came lawsuits for trademark infringement; the band was forced to change their name to Green Jelly and also had to put an edited version of " Cereal Killer Soundtrack" on their audio release, as the cereal companies whose mascots were murdered in the video did not take kindly to it. Band members, who have exceeded 74 in number over the years, perform under aliases such as Marshall Staxx and Jesus Quisp. The band was able to sell records based on their visual weirdness for several years, doing fine up through the mid-'90s. ~ Steve Huey, All Music Guide

The band has had anywhere from 75-115 members since its inception (!)

2. Three Little Pigs

[Spoken]

Why don't you, sit right back,
and I, I may tell you, a tale.
A tale of three, little pigs,
and a BIG, BAD, WOLFFF.

Well the first little piggy, well he was kinda hip.
He spent most of his days, just a dreamin of the city.
And then one day, he bought a guitar.
He moved to Hollywood, to become a star.
But, living on the farm, he knew nothing of the city.
Built his house out of straw, what a pity.
And then one day, jammin on some chords,
Along came the wolf, knocking on his door.

[Chorus]
Little Pig, Little Pig, let me in.
NOT BY THE HAIR OF MY CHINNY, CHIN, CHIN!!
Little Pig, Little Pig, let me in.
NOT BY THE HAIR OF MY CHINNY, CHIN, CHIN!!
Well I'm huffin, I'm puffin, I'll blow your house in.
Huffin, puffin, blow your house in.
Huffin, puffin, blow your house in.
Huffin and a puffin and I'll blow your house in!!!

Well the second little piggy, well he was kinda stoked.
He spent most of his time just a gangsta smokin.
Huffin and a puffin down on Venice Beach.
Getting paid money for religious speech.
He built his shelter from what garbage he picked.
Mostly made up of old cans and sticks.
Then one day he was cranking out Bob Marley,
And along came the Wolf on his big bad Harley.

[Chorus]

Well the third little piggy, the grade A student.
His daddy was a rock star, named Pig Nugent.
Earned his Masters Degree, from Harvard College.
Built his house from his architect knowledge.
A tri-level mansion, Hollywood Hills.
Daddy's rock stardom, paid for the bills.
And then one day came the old house smasher
The BIG BAD WOLF THE LITTLE PIGGY SLASHER.

[Chorus]

Well the big bad Wolf,
Well he huffed, and he puffed, all that he could.
And low and behold the little piggy's house stood.
"IT'S MADE OUT OF CONCRETE!", the little piggy shouted.
The wolf just frowned, as he pouted.
So they called nine-eleven, like any piggy would.
They sent out RAMBO, just as fast, as they could.

[Rambo]
"YO, WOLF-FACE, I'M YOUR WORST NIGHTMARE, YOUR ASS IS MINE!!!"

[machine gun fire]

Well the wolf fell dead as you can plainly see.
So thats to end the story, for you and me.
If you still give a listen, you just may,
Here a big wolf or little piggy say.

[Chorus]

"And the moral of the story is: 'A band with no talent can easily amuse
idiots with a stupid puppet show.' "

ah aggiungo qualche news inquietante che vorrei confermata dai TOOL fans (me li fa vedere sotto una luce decisamente diversa e meno seriosa):

TOOL members:

Vocalist: MAYNARD JAMES KEENAN from THE CHILDREN OF ANACHRONISTIC DYNASTY [C.A.D.]/TEXA.N.S./TITANNICA/SHANDI'S ADDICTION/TAPEWORM/A PERFECT CIRCLE/GREEN JELLY

Drummer/Percussionist: DANNY CAREY from PIGMY LOVE CIRCUS/ZAUM/LUSK/GREEN JELLY

Bass Player: JUSTIN CHANCELLOR from PEACH/PEACH UK, Guitarist ADAM JONES from ELECTRIC SHEEP/NOISELAND ARCADE & Bass Player PAUL D'AMOUR from THE REPLICANTS/LUSK)

e poi ancora:

...Tool vocalist Maynard James Keenan and Tool drummer Danny Carey were both members of Green Jelly. That's where they met, before they broke off to form Tool...

...Former vocalist Gary Helsinger is now the Director A&R, West Coast, for Universal. He was also Tour Manager for A Perfect Circle....

io ricordo anche alcuni video animati del GJ...ai tempi di Headbangers' Ball...
ma i membri del gruppo non erano senza identità? nel senso che non riportavano i loro nomi nei dischi...
