Robert Carranza Engineers "The Bedlam in Goliath"

The Mars Volta are recording their fourth album, "The Bedlam in Goliath," at Ocean Way Recording with engineer Robert Carranza. Set for a fall release, bandmember Omar Rodriguez-Lopez is producing the record, as he did the last two Mars Volta albums. Engineer and mixer Robert Carranza is widely known and respected for his work with such artists as Los Lobos, Ozomatli, Jack Johnson, Beck, Eels, Molotov, and Supergrass.

The Mars Volta is the creative partnership formed in 2001 between bandleader/composer/guitarist Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and lyricist/vocalist Cedric Bixler-Zavala. The band is known for its progressive rock, melded with jazz, punk and Latin influences. The Mars Volta is also notorious for its wild, energetic, and highly improvised live shows along with the use of ambient music.

Welcome, back, Omar Rodriguez-Lopez! The Mars Volta mastermind - who just released a solo album, Se Dice Bisonte, No Bufalo, featuring Chili Pepper John Frusciante - has moved back to America after a stint in Amsterdam. The guitarist found a place in Brooklyn, where he's putting the final touches on a hot new M.V album "There are fifteen-minute songs, and there's literally a two-minute song." he reports. Saddening was the recent departure of powerhouse drummer Jon Theodore, but Omar has an ace up his sleeve for when M.V set out on a "long tour" around the disc's fall release. "His name is Thomas Prigden, and he's a fucking monster," Omar says. "I was told he's like Jon, but on coke. He's the perfect fit." Beware.
