Ho visto La Promessa dell'Assassino anch'io...
A livello di regia si vede che è fatto da qualcuno che sa fare il suo mestiere, eccome...
La storia, a livello superficiale, non mi è sembrata granché... vicende di questo tipo (mafie, infiltrati, prostitute, ecc.) se ne sono viste a trilioni nel cinema, ma se si guarda più a fondo e si fa caso a certe allusioni, simbolismi, allora il film acquista un altro significato e sicuramente arriva ad essere un gran bel lavoro.
Cassel fastidioso, e, come avete detto, forse troppo esagerato nell'accentuare i lati delinquenziali del suo personaggio...
Viggo Mortensen si conferma un grandissimo attore, così come Naomi Watts
Film da vedere almeno un paio di volte per cercare di capire dove Cronenberg vuole andare a parare, la storia di base è "troppo normale", non può essersi fermato a quel livello... Le ipotesi che avete lanciato sono suggestive e chissà che non siano proprio quelle che Cronenberg aveva in mente...
Sarebbe bello leggere interviste a riguardo... non c'è niente in giro?

The film plays out like a perverted version of the Moses narrative, with Russian mafia standing in for the Egyptian empire. There’s a baby, born out of rape and pillage, found in his mother’s bleeding stomach. At some point the Russian mafia captures it. But just as Moses is about to be thrown into the river, a kindly Western queer (Viggo Mortenssen) and his soulmate (Naomi Watts) will save him, thereby preventing the blood feud from leading to yet another Resurrection. The film ends with the soothing image of the queer finding the ”Russian soul” in vodka while the strong independent woman mothers Moses on her own. It could be an alternative to the familial-fundamentalist nightmare looming behind the facade of ”advanced Western civilization”. Or so it seems on first glance, readeries.
