Massive Attack have completed work on a new album which will provide the soundtrack to a new movie by acclaimed ‘Nikita’, ‘Leon’ and ‘The Fifth Element’ director Luc Besson.
The new movie is entitled ‘Danny The Dog’ and Massive Attack were approached personally by Besson to record the soundtrack. Over eleven weeks the band wrote an instrumental score of 21 pieces of music, which run in chronological order throughout the film, with each piece depicting a certain scene.
The movie is a martial arts thriller starring Jet Li, Bob Hoskins and Morgan Freeman, telling the story of a slave (Li) who has lived his life without any sort of normal human education, with the mind and personality of a young child, who has only learnt how to defend himself. Treated like a dog by his owner, (Hoskins), Danny fights in illegal gladiator-style fight clubs. After a car accident that lands his owner in a coma, however, Danny meets a kind elderly blind piano tuner (Freeman), who uses music to teach Danny some humanity.
Besson is arguably France’s greatest modern director, having made such classic movies as ‘The Big Blue’, ‘Subway’, ‘Nikita’, ‘Leon’ and ‘The Fifth Element’.
Elsewhere, the duo of Robert ‘3D’ del Naja and Grant 'Daddy G' Marshall have reportedly returned to the studio to record the follow up to last year’s album ‘100th Window’ which is due for release in Spring 2005.
'Danny The Dog' will be released on October 11 and the full tracklisting is:
'Opening Title' 'Atta' Boy' 'P Is For Piano' 'Simple Rules' 'Polaroid Girl' 'Sam' 'One Thought At A Time' 'Confused Images' 'Red Light Means Go' 'Collar Stays On' 'You've Never Had A Dream' 'Right Way To Hold A Spoon' 'Everybody's Got A Family' 'Two Rocks & A Cup Of Wate' 'Sweet Is Good' 'Montage' 'Everything About You Is New' 'The Dog Obeys' 'Danny The Dog' 'I Am Home' 'The Academy'
